Album cover, text and client approval

An album draft starts with a cover: the title, the names and the day. Add text pages and captions, colour the pages, then share the album on a proofing gallery. Your client comments on spreads, asks to change a photo, and approves the album when it is right.

A cover and text pages

  1. The cover

A new draft starts with a cover spread: the project's name as the title, the client's names and the shoot day, on the right page. Change the words in Text and colour under the spread. To put a photo on the cover, choose the layout Cover: title on the left, photo on the right, then tap the empty cell and a keep. Untick Start with a cover when you make a draft without one.

  2. Text pages

In a spread's layout list, Text has a Text page and text beside a photo, on either side. Type in the box under the spread: each line break starts a new line. Long text gets smaller until it fits, down to a smallest size; past that the spread says Text too long and the end is cut off, so shorten it.

  3. Captions

Tap a photo on a spread, then type its Caption under this photo. The caption takes a thin band at the bottom of the photo's cell, in the page's colour.

  4. Fonts

Each spread's text is in Serif (Noto Serif) or Sans (Noto Sans). The fonts come with CullTone, so the export prints the same lines the screen shows. India: Devanagari (Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit), Telugu and Tamil print in Noto Sans for those scripts, mixed with English as you type. Other scripts are not in the album fonts yet: the spread says Characters the fonts can't print.

  5. Page colours

Page colour sets both pages of a spread: white, ivory, warm grey, sage, navy, charcoal, black, or any colour with Other. A colour per page sets the left and right pages apart; Use these colours on every spread copies them to the whole album. The colour reaches into the bleed; text turns light on a dark page.

Text in print

  • Text keeps to the print guides. A badge says Text near the edge when a line crosses the safe zone and Text in the fold when it sits in the gutter, usually a caption on a photo across both pages. The print notes in the spreads ZIP list each one.
  • The text is drawn into the spread images at the export's resolution (300 dpi for print), in the JPEGs and in the PDF. The PDF has no separate text layer, so a lab cannot change the words.
  • PDF for print and Spreads (JPEG ZIP) are made by CullTone Desktop on one of your computers (the one with this shoot's photos when there is one), which also keeps a copy in the project's Album folder in your CullTone Library, next to Finals. They show how long they will take while they are made, or what they wait for when no computer is on; the button stays busy and a second click does nothing. The dialog closes when the file is saved, and the same album downloads again at once while nothing changed.

Share the album for approval

  1. Share a round

Under the print settings, Client approval: choose a proofing gallery of the project and press Share for approval. The gallery's link, PIN, expiry and branding are used; the client sees a Photos and an Album tab. Every photo of the album must be in that gallery, and on its link: a link limited to some events shows no album with another event's photos.

  2. What the client does

The client sees each spread as it will print, at screen size and with your watermark if the gallery has one. They tap a photo to ask for a change (and can pick another photo of the gallery instead), comment on any spread, and press Approve the album. No account is needed. The pages appear a moment after you share, once CullTone Desktop has made them on one of your computers.

  3. Answer the requests

The requests show in Client approval by round, each with its spread. Use this photo puts the photo the client picked in its place; Mark resolved and an answer tell the client it is done. You can keep changing the album while the client looks: they see the round you shared.

  4. Round 2 and after

Share changes as round 2 shows the client your new version; the history of rounds stays. Once the client approves, the album is locked so it prints as approved. Reopen to make changes opens it for changes again; the client sees it read only until you share the next round. Stop sharing takes the album off the link.
