What's new, newest first
The changes you would notice at your desk or in a client's gallery, in plain words. If it doesn't change what you see or what you pay, it isn't here.

Working with your other apps
- Bring in edited photos: drop the JPEG, PNG or TIFF files you finished in another app, and CullTone finds which photo each one is, shows what changed, and adds it as a version marked Edited outside. Plain edits can teach your style.
- Stars, pick and reject flags and colour labels from Photo Mechanic, Lightroom and other apps are read from the files and their sidecars, and CullTone asks once whether to use them as your picks.
- Send keeps to Lightroom, in CullTone Desktop: your picks as stars in XMP files next to your RAWs, or the delivered JPEGs with their stars into a folder Lightroom watches.
- Edit in another app, in CullTone Desktop: a photo opens in Photoshop or the app you choose, and each save comes back as a version. A PSD isn't read; save a TIFF or JPEG copy.
Delivery
- Download a photo from the edit screen, a retouch result or a selection in the cull: full size, 2048 px, Instagram 4:5 or a WhatsApp size.
- Projects of finished photos: upload photos you already edited and go straight to galleries, albums and the slideshow.
- Export this project gives you one ZIP with the finals, every version, the XMP files, albums and gallery feedback.
- Your name, copyright notice and contact details are written into every photo CullTone delivers, once you set them in Settings.
CullTone Desktop
- A full menu bar with the usual Mac keys, a Dock menu with your recent projects, and job progress on the app icon.
- Show in Finder selects one photo's final or original, from the edit screen, the cull or the project header.

Plans, storage and galleries
- New monthly plans in US dollars, from a free 30-day trial to Studio with ten seats. You pay for seats and storage; there is no per-photo charge and no overage.
- The app warns at 70% and 90% of your storage. At 100% a new gallery waits; galleries already online stay up.
- Galleries now close after six months unless you pick another date, with an Extend button in the last 30 days. Thirty days after a gallery closes its copies are removed; your edited photos stay in the project.
- New projects offer weddings and events only, the two genres checked on real shoots.
- Terms and Privacy Policy, and a checkbox to accept them at sign-up.
Editing
- The edit studio has looks with a strength slider, masks, undo and redo, zoom, before and after, copy and paste of edits, and Apply, which renders only the photos you changed.
- New masks for skin, and for face and neck together. Masks now hug the edges of hair and dresses more closely, in the preview too.
- Face retouch leaves bindis, kumkum, tilak, nose pins and moles alone. Grain now goes on after the retouch, so retouched skin doesn't look plastic.
- Everyday edits stay closer to what the camera saw: cleaner white balance, whites that reach white, vibrance that leaves skin alone, and previews that match the final file from the first look.
- Final JPEGs are saved at quality 95. At 92 we saw blocky patches in dark, noisy backgrounds.
- Every edit version keeps its own file, so approving version 2 in the Review step delivers version 2 even after version 3 exists.
Retouch
- Remove: paint over an exit sign or a stray cup and it's gone, at no cost.
- 831 prompt templates in 16 categories, with before and after examples, alongside your own prompt. Each shows its price before it runs.
- Retouched results come back at the size of your photo, and only the area you selected changes. They are labelled AI-modified in the app, the gallery and the file.
Several cameras
- Photos from every camera now line up in shooting order, even when one body's clock was a few minutes out. The cull grid sorts by shot time, file name or camera, and filters by camera and by who added the photos.
Client galleries and the website
- Galleries show a sharper preview while the full file loads.
- This website went up.
17 Oct 2026
- CullTone Desktop now does the culling and editing on your Mac. Before this, every RAW file had to be uploaded first.
- People (face grouping within one project) is on by default for new projects, and can be switched off per project.
- The desktop app uploads only when you press Sync, and it now handles gallery ZIP files of a whole wedding.
- A browser tab left in the background goes quiet after 30 seconds and catches up when you come back to it.
First builds, 16–18 Oct 2026
We didn't date these to the day, so they are grouped here.
- 18 genre presets, each with its own reasons, such as eyes closed in a group photo, a subject cut off at the frame edge, or motion blur.
- Exposure brackets and focus stacks are spotted and grouped.
- Straightening is suggested but never applied for you, and quarter turns are kept in the files.
- XMP sidecars for Lightroom with ratings, labels, reasons and develop settings.
- Culling gives the same result every time on the same files.
