School photography software for picture-day culling
Six hundred children, three frames each, and every one of them deserves a frame with both eyes open. CullTone's school and volume preset keeps one consistent, blink-free frame per child, judges class photos by the one face that blinked, and keeps colour the same from the first form to the last.
Consistency beats the best frame
On picture day the most striking frame of one child is often the wrong one, because it doesn't match the other twenty-nine on the class page. So this preset gives variety no weight at all and puts expression first: eyes open, a natural smile, head straight. Every child keeps one frame, and at least one frame per child always stays in view, so nobody goes missing from the yearbook.
- Blinks and half-blinks are faults, and each child's best open-eyed frame wins.
- White balance is corrected firmly toward neutral, so skin looks the same from 8 a.m. to the last class.
- Fewer close calls go to Review than in other presets, because near-identical frames are near-identical.

Class photos judged by the worst face
Up to 40 faces are found, including small ones in the back row. Each blinking child costs the frame more here than in other presets, so the frame with the fewest blinks wins.
Head swaps suggested
When no class frame has every eye open, but each blinker is open in another frame, CullTone suggests the swap and keeps those frames safe from Archive.
Each child is a series
Frames of one child are grouped together; a new face or a pause of about eight seconds starts the next child.
Where it fits in a volume workflow
CullTone culls and edits. It doesn't read the barcode or QR card you shoot between students, doesn't import a roster, and doesn't sell packages or prints. If your lab or capture app matches frames to students, keep it for that and use CullTone to clear blinks and even out colour before export. If you run small schools, nurseries or sports clubs and deliver by gallery, CullTone can carry the whole day. For a team photo shoot, see sports photography.
Editorial clean and True to camera are the looks for this work: neutral, crisp, nothing stylised. Face retouch is off until you turn it on. The quality check flags skin colour shifts before anything leaves.
Galleries for schools and parents
Make a gallery per class from the same project. The school approves frames and asks for redos with a note; parents heart favourites and download, one photo or a ZIP, if you've switched downloads on. Galleries expire after six months unless you extend them, and you can revoke a link the moment it's shared too widely. Galleries have no password yet, so for children's photos think about who gets the link.
What happens to children's face data?
Faces are compared within one project only, never across projects. Turn people grouping off for the project and its face data is deleted. Originals stay on your Mac.
Several photographers on one day?
Everyone's cards go into one project and line up on one timeline. Seats and roles are on the team workspaces page.
What does it run on?
A Mac with Apple silicon, culling for free per photo. CullTone is in beta and has no Windows build yet.
